Ramblings

When I first started this blog a few years ago, it wask called Training for the CRIM and I started it so a buddy of mine (you know, the other fool) and I could keep track of each other's progress as we trained for the Coolest Race In Michigan. For the most part our posts were written either for ourselves, like a journal entry, or for the other one to read for motivation, technical competence, etc. Over time, others started to read the blog and our (my) writing style and content started to change as if we (I) were writing for 'readers' other than ourselves. You'll have to forgive me if in the middle of a post it just stops making sense - that just means I'm writing for myself or for the other Fool (Jeff) as he has started to pursue his running dreams again.

For the last month, most days have been pretty easy going. A meeting here or there, working on the house a little bit, catching up on reading, helping out with Eddie's baseball team, went to NY for a few days, and wasting gobs of time watching movies/TV and on Flickr! Oh the weight you can put on in just a month or so! Eddie has been having so much fun with baseball and his doing so much better than we thought he would this year as he is in a division for the first year that most of his friends are in for their second year. He's doing well at the plate - only a guess - but I would bet he has one of the top 3-5 batting averages on his team of 14. Now that Heather is finished with school for the summer, I've been hanging out with her in the daytime too when Karen is with clients. She complains about having to hang out with 'boring Dadddy' and screaches with with delight when Karen comes home (which is actually nice for Karen because she thinks the kids "kiss my butt" all the time!

Starting this week I have finally been back on the road, with laced up running shoes, putting one foot in front of the other. There's no way I can say it has been bliss, but it has been good, and I'm just trying to keep the body in motion for a few weeks until it gets past all of the initial pings and pangs of going from relative inactivity to running. My runs have been short - about 1.5 to 2 miles and that's good enough for now. Jeff and I are going to scope out the races that will align well with our training for the 2006 (30th) edition of the CRIM and get a few races in before then. They are always so much fun and unbelievably motivating!

I have to thank Lara for a beautifully written post yesterday that wasn't all fluffy, "I'm going through a rough time but I'll get through it" kind of post, rather, one that was full of real human feelings of self-doubt, dignity, and a bit of desparation perhaps. That kind of honesty is so much more engaging and inspiring than putting on a happy face and "this too shall pass" front because that's what we do when other people are watching. Thanks Lara.
